Spent the whole day at the San Diego Aerospace Museum archives, conducting a very productive research on the Ryan STA's exported to Guatemala and Honduras.
Neat aircraft on display there, too.
Also, for the first time in mi life, I have seen from closer (note, not close up) an aircraft carrier!!
The only other time, was back in the early 1980s, when I saw one out at sea, off Panama, but it was too hazy and our boat of course, would not get nearer.
The USS Midway is also in the plans.
The attached, is a LAMPS that was flying in the Point Loma area at sunset today.

So Tulio, did you find anything regarding the STAs ? My research says that only 1 Menasco engine was found in the 70s. None of the airframes have ever been found.

I did my research mostly on the Guatemalan and Honduran STAs for myself, and for a Honduran friend.
So, if we are talking about Guatemalan Ryans, yes, "enough parts to re-assemble seven of them" made it back to the USA onboard a Curtiss C-46 flown by Dick Spencer. There were also, 9 Menasco C4S-150 engines on that trip.
There is one Nicaraguan Ryan resting at the bottom of Lake Nicaragua (IIRC) after an accident in the mid-1950s.
Re: Chinese Ryans:
Yes, there is some material; several (probably around 15-20) of Ryans in the Nationalist Chinese service; letters, factory documents, articles, magazine articles, etc.

Rob,
I went to Coronado today; but I did not even attempt to go in; there is a little park on the East side of Coronado, and from there I could catch a glimpse of the USS Reagan and the USS Nimitz, and saw a couple of destroyers go by.
I saw North Island yesterday, from the heights at Point Loma.
Today I visited the USS Midway, and this is the end of the San Diego trip, since I must head back East to start working again.
To my eternal shame, Rob, I did not write down the ISBN number on that book, as I thought I had done.
I have though, the telephone number and contact at the SDASM archives, and we can locate the book if you want.
