Wisconsin Veterans Museum - Madison, WI Gallery

Wed Mar 18, 2015 10:46 am

Hi All,

Continuing with our theme of smaller and/or less documented museums, we’ve posted a gallery of photos of the tremendous Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison, WI. This small museum is beautifully laid out and the artifacts well displayed in diorama and display settings. Truly a gem of a museum and well worth a visit.

Enjoy!

Your location says "on the road". If you're not from Wisconsin, welcome! Great to see appreciation for this small museum, it's easy to miss because of it's downtown location. The P-51 is interesting, though it is a replica they did a pretty nice job on it. Not just fiberglass either, this one has a good bit of sheet metal in it.

I've never seen a Huey with that nose.

And is it just me or is the Mustang missing ailerons ?

As the P-51 is a replica, there are a few things different, the ailerons being one of them. If I recall correctly the gear doors are 1 piece of sheet metal, no inner and outer (inside color of inner doors unknown.. :D ).
The Huey looks to be modeled after an attack version (Hog) with the M5 grenade launcher in the nose though it looks a bit "off" in the pics. There is at least one UH-1 Hog plastic model kit with the shark teeth and all.

It appears that the Nat. Museum of the U.S. Air Force has loaned them their Sopwith Camel & Fokker Dr1 Triplane replicas/reproductions. Wonder if the NMUSAF has plans to ever display them back home again in the future?
