Ed, I made it Saturday and gave my report here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=55632

No pictures sorry.

Highlight for me was seeing the Me-262 fly for my first time, and the new Luftwaffe jet/rocket replicas in the German Hangar. Dixie wings Dauntless was a welcome treat.

Great place to see a show, with unprecedented closeness to the aircraft and runway. Being so close you can really appreciate the different take off runs, bobbles etc. The C-46 and the Ju-52/CASA especially impressive so close.

Narrators were a bit too talkative this year. I know it is tough to gauge with both enthusiasts and novices in the crowd, but silence is OK at times. They do a great job, but silence should be the rule when a merlin or big radial makes a run down the strip!

Thanks for another great show Mr. Y and the whole team!

Yes...I went, been every year since '11. Great show and a great venue.

The only things I would change is;

1) Park aircraft down the far end by the WWI hangars (I'm talking the AT-6/SNJs, etc. in front of the crowd), obstructs your view and makes getting photos tough. Also, the CAP kids need to stay out of my frame, man...

2) Change the flight pattern. I'm guessing this is out of their control, FAA or whatever must deem it unsafe/too close to the crowd line if they fly down the direction of the runway. Looking at aerial views of the field, they'd fly over less housing if they flew in the direction of the runway heading...I dunno but it makes for an odd display though. They need to let people know this too, a lot of folks sitting in front of the hangars where upset that once the flying started, they couldn't see anything.

3) Give us a heads up as to when the Me-262 is inbound.

Either way, I always enjoy it and I think it is about the best Warbird airshow on the east coast.

Pics!

It is a great show and the Museum is fantastic. RI isn't too far and Virginia Beach proper isn't too far away if the family wanted to make a vacation of it.

On top of the aircraft displayed, it is also a huge gathering of re enactors, Allied and Axis along with their weapons, vehicles, girlfriends and frauleins alike.

Might be time to schedule a Mid-Atlantic WIX gathering for next year :)

Do it! Come on down, it would be great to meet you! There's a fair number of WIX'ers around here anyways, and that would be a wonderful time and place to meet up.

For those of us in the Old Dominion Squadron of the APS, this is both our home show and our favorite show; many of us camped out over the weekend in the GP Medium, and we had a fantastic time meeting lots of great folks. And I was offered a tremendously unique opportunity through the kindness of Jon Brawner and Mike Lambert- I got a hop in the back seat of the Dixie Wing SBD in my wartime original flight gear for an A2A photo session at the request of the Kiwi legend Gavin Conroy. (The plane was the primary subject, not me obviously... but he wanted someone in the back in authentic gear, and I was only too happy to oblige, Jon and Mike put Gavin in touch with me)

This was easily a top five life event. :supz:
