Spitfire MJ722 forced landing, 9-7-2015

Tue Sep 08, 2015 7:42 am

Spitfire MJ722 can't seem to catch a break, it suffered a engine failure in flight with a forced landing in a field, tearing off the left wing in the process.
No injuries, pilot was Rob Davies, who was also the pilot who bailed out of the P-51 Big Beautiful Doll ( not BBD ) after a mid air collision with a Skyraider.

Additional information: The German owner of both planes (BBD and MJ772) was / is Hangar10 located at Heringsdorf Airport (island of Usedom, Baltic Sea, just at the Polish border). Good luck for the pilot, glad he is uninjured. Bad luck for the owner, MJ772 seems repairable, but not a fast nor cheap repair IMHO.

On the Spitfire front, I heard a second hand report that the Fighter Factory Spitfire MJ730 damaged its prop landing at Toronto City centre airport as it arrived for the Canadian International Airshow. :(
Sorry I don't have any further details.
