These are Great Inflight Photos of the F/A-22 as the first Aircraft Delivery was being made to Langley AFB in Va.. Langley is to be first Operational AFB for the F/A-22. It is a very Beautiful AFB, located in a picturesque location, as you can see in these photos, near Norfolk and Hampton, Va.


The Aircraft flying along with the F/A-22 in the last of these photos is the F-15, which will be replaced by the F/A-22 which is several times better than the F-15.

In Actual Inflight (simulated) Combat Operations against the F-15, two F/A-22's were able to operate without detection while it went Head to Head against (8) F-15's. The F/A-22's scored Missile Hits (Kills) against all the F-15 Aircraft , and the F/A-22's were never Detected by either the F-15's or Ground Based Radar.

Maj. Gen. Rick Lewis said: "The Raptor Operated Against All Adversaries with Virtual Impunity; Ground Based Systems Couldn't Engage and NO Adversary Aircraft Survived"!!!

I was lucky enough last month to be flying over Langley at 2500 feet on my way to Norfolk when two took off below me. Wow, what a site!
A friend of mine in one of the "agencies" who attended a breifing recently claims that the F-35 will be the last military airplane in the U.S. designed to have a pilot on board. Sad, if true..................

i thought eglin air force base panama city florida received the 1st f-22's?? can any one clarify???

Langley's 1st FW are the first users of the F/A-22, taking delivery of their initial aircraft in May of 2005. These pictures Steve posted have been around for a while but must still be circulating via email as current news. The 1st FW was also the first wing to take delivery of the F-15A back in the day.

Operational test aircraft have been flown at Nellis, Edwards and Eglin over the past few years leading up to the F/A-22s line deployment. After Langley gets all of their Raptors I believe Tyndall, which is located in Panama City, will get the next group of aircraft.

tyndall... that's what i meant!! sorry about mentioning eglin. i read something re: that they were receiving the 1st raptors, or it could be test birds & i over looked that fact???

I heard the AF wants 381 so that each expeditionary Air Force would have a squadron with enough left over for attrition and the pipeline. Due to a Pentagon budget decision they reduced the Raptor budget to what looks like 179 now. Everyone awaits the QDR to see if more Raptors would be gained.

My belief is that if they build more Raptors the F-35 will be hurt or stretched out. Time will tell.
