Gun Turrets On B-29 Doc

Sat Dec 03, 2005 8:51 am

Does the restoration team for 'Doc" have a set of turrets for the plane? If so, where did they get them?

Hmmm.....

I can't remember if I saw turrets there or not. But then again, they had a lot of parts in the "cage" that I didn't see. Of course, I spent my time in the fuselage and on the other side of the hangar.

I watched 'em load up the seavans in Inyokern prior to departure....I only saw the tail turret stuff...maybe a few bits of the other turrets, not sure as I wasn't part of the "core" group and was locked out of the compound right after Doc left. I do know that a big pile of "junk" was left and it included wing spars, sections and a bunch of other stuff that all went to the local recycler. Shortly thereafter the Navy came in and confiscated everything else that never really belonged to the "museum" in the first place. Doc was the only thing there aircraft wise that actually belonged to a civillian and was legaly obtained.

Oh yeah..I crawled all over Docs innards a few times too. Spent many weekends talking to visitors and giving tours and helping out around the place. For that I got kicked out when Doc left

If they need B-29 turrets, a good friend of mine has several decent starter projects.

Cheers, Richard
