Going to DC...

Ok. I'm going to Washington, D.C. for 5 days next January. What Aviation-related places should I go?

NASM (on the Mall)
NASM Udvar-Hazy
US Postal Museum
College Park Aviation Museum
Navy Memorial Museum (if at all possible)

I'd also like to go to Andrews AFB and get some shots of the F6F...anybody know if it's possible?

No car for me...only metro.

I used to work at Andrews and have some pics of the F6F.
Not sure you can get into Andrews AFB unless your retired or active military.

I think you've listed everything you can get to by metro. I think the F6F is accessible, as I seem to remember it's at the Navy side entrance on a turning circle. Can't get there by metro though. Also, I do not believe that you can get to the Navy museum by metro. You also need a valid DOD id to get into it, due to the hightened alert status. A word to the wise though, it's in Anacostia, which is one of the most dangerous areas in DC. The base itself is fine of course, but I wouldn't want to walk there from down town. Used to live near D.C. for a couple of years. My advice is to TAKE PICTURES! Thats all.

I think the Navy Museum IS accessible. The page linked earlier is dated 2002. This one:

is dated 2005 - you just need to phone ahead. There is a metro stop not too far away - Navy Yard? I can't vouch for the level of danger though.

If you can make it a bit further afield, Pax River isn't too far away
