Substantial B-26 Marauder remains, New Guinea

Wed Jan 13, 2016 10:15 pm

Anyone have a clue to what B-26 this is? It looks as if they are in the process of recovery. Article doesn't give much clue. Sorry for the over-sized pic.

How cool is that! Finally a buried aircraft story with some hard physical evidence.

That's exactly what I was thinking, lol. sure would be nice if it was excavated, preserved, and displayed somewhere.

Lt Hatch put "DIXIE" down in a river bed. It has silted up in the 70 years since. When JPAC first visited, only the tail fin and 250CE were above the mud. It's no where near Black Cat (which is in the mountains). And it was dug out by the villagers for JT to take the picture.

I'm sure that he told them that it was worth $20 Million also.

DaveM2,
This subject has been discussed before, but I don't recall seeing that image of
the B-26 unearthed like that. Be a little easy on the guy! :)

Oh, I didn't mean anything by it - more that it is quite a chore to search...
