FG-1D Corsair "Skyboss" For Sale!!!

Tue Feb 16, 2016 2:42 pm

A truly sad title if I've ever read one. Clyman's AAM has always been a staple here in New England, and more specifically "Skyboss" was the closest flyable Corsair to Sikorsky Airport (home of the Vought factory). It will be quite sad to see her go. What does this mean for the rest of AAM? Are they selling off their other aircraft too?! Whats going on here?!?!

The FG-1D Corsair “Skyboss” regularly flown by the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, NY is being offered for sale. The Pratt & Whitney R-2800-powered aircraft (S/N 67089) was manufactured by Goodyear in 1942 and is reportedly equipped with a passenger/ride jump seat, STEC 60-2 autopilot and Garmin 155 GPS, as well as King com, nav, DME and transponder.

The Corsair is being offered for $2,495,000. Additional details can be found here.

Interesting that the controller ad says that its current location is in Camarillo, CA - is that right?

Bummer, it is a regular at most of the shows in the area. I always enjoy seeing it.

It has sold and is no longer on displayed at the AAM. Anyone know where it ended up? It is registered to F4U Inc. Dover, DE

With the AAM being my hometown museum it's said to see this collection shrink. I wonder who the P-47 will end up with once the investigation is complete and the airframe released? In the case of the Corsair, I wish museums would be more forthcoming with information. When the sale was announced I posted a question about it leaving the fleet on FB. The reply was a snarky "It didn't go anywhere, it's in maintenance right now (offsite)." Wouldn't a post to state it was time to part with it to move on to other things be better than a denial? (With someone else posting a link to the sale on their wall no less)

In any case the funds were put to good use getting the B-25 back up in the air after a two year hiatus.

It is very sad to see the AAM shrinking. Now the only fighter they have is the P-40. Rewind the clock back to 2005 when at Republic you could find:

x2 P-40s
x1 P-51
x1 P-47
x1 Corsair.

What happened to the P-51?

I seem to recall it being there when I visited a couple years ago.

"What happened to the P-51?"

It looked like this when with AAM back in the 90s.

Last I have, it looked like this.

Thanks Bill! Gee, I even forgot about the AAM P-51! I was actually referring to the Warbirds Over L.I. (Baranaskas operated) P-51 and P-40, in addition to AAM's fleet. But yes! They did have a Mustang too. How the mind slips.
