Happened yesterday I believe between the TFLM Zero and Corsair, with the Corsair 'substantially' eating up a portion of the Zero's tail. No injuries, just a bit of pride dented. Hopefully it's not too long before both are back in the air again!

Oh jeez, that's terrible news! I'm glad the crew's ok...but, having reread the Classic Wings article "The Perfect Zero" several times, I have to confess I'm a little upset.

Look, I know accidents happen, it's a fact of life, but can I just be pi$$ed off at the mere fact that it happened? Before throwing the pilot of either plane under the bus, some investigation needs to take place... were they spaced too close together? Did the Zeke stop short? Were ground marshals involved? Was there a comm or mechanical failure on the Corsair? Way too early to cast blame, and I'm very glad there were no personnel injured, but d@mmit, I *REALLY* hate hearing that the A6M2 got chewed up. That's easily one of the top five most amazing aircraft I've ever seen fly.

Both planes were scheduled to be at the LA County Airshow this weekend at Fox Field in Lancaster. I don't know if their arrival day was tomorrow or Friday, but I imagine they were doing final preparations to make the trip.

They were already on the trip. All 6 airplanes left out of Houston yesterday morning, and Midland was their first fuel stop. They continued West this afternoon according to a post on Facebook.

Apparently, a Hellcat and a Spitfire are replacing TFL Corsair and Zero for the Lancaster show.

Not sure about the Hellcat (maybe it's actually their Wildcat), but they came back to Houston with the Mustang yesterday, and picked up their Spitfire. I happened to catch them leaving Ellington as they went by the office.

Btw, for those thinking the Zero is cut in half, I've seen a photo and it isn't as bad as you could image. It was a taxi incident on departure, so power was low. TFL posted a statement last night that both airplanes will be back up within the year.
