... There's not many things in life that rips your heart out like the loss of a great dog. The only true definition of "unconditional love" and "absolute loyalty" you'll ever find on this planet. I rarely sheds tears over anything in life. Trained myself hard to acquire "thick skin", keep my business to myself and take the good with the bad ...... but today I guess I'll let the guard down a bit and tell people I don't know on an internet forum I'm one crushed guy today. Sorry but when your a bit overwhelmed about something you'll ask the mailman to listen to you for a few minutes. Anyone out there who owns a dog? Give em a great big hug for me ...

Sorry for your loss Mark, you are absolutely right. "Mans best friend" is totally accurate.

My pup is getting up there in years and it is always at the back of my mind...

Sorry to hear that Mark. We don't know why they bring so much fun, friendship and laughter, they're just an animal... But their true unconditional love, affection and attention to their guardian in life cannot be compared to any other living thing. Say goodbye knowing you were there and provided a good and happy life for your pal.

Mark - I know how you feel - These dogs get into our lives are they are more than pets, they become family. I have no doubt that when I make that final transfer that there will be a good old brown and white mutt waiting to play.

Rachel and I rescued "Guinness" last summer...He's about 1 1/2 now...great little friend!...I didn't think it would be possible to have another dog after "Thumper" passed in 2005...but life is too short not to share it with these best of friends.

Mark, I'm really sorry about your loss. I've seen a lot of death and destruction in my profession and it doesn't really upset me much. But when I've had a dog die, I've cried like a baby. Dog's are loyal and loving unconditionally. The only thing I can think of better than that is the love of a good woman.




P.S. Just writing this and thinking about losing a dog put a lump in my throat.

Mark, We lost our 16-year old in January so we know how you feel. So thankful to have had good dogs in our lives and looking forward to new ones yet to come. The pain merely validates the uncalculable value they bring to our lives. Hang in there, buddy. Ken

Without a doubt, members of the family!
Some of the most rewarding relationships I've had, have been with dogs!
The high of such an amazing relationship, ends with having to say goodbye, every decade and a half or so. A high high, followed by a devastating low.
Even though it hurts so much, it is totally worth it.

Here's the deal. You give them the room you can spare, the time you can spare and the love you can spare,
In return, they give you their all! Best deal ever!

For what it's worth, Mark, I feel for you. My own dachshund is 14 years old and I have no illusions that we probably don't have too much time with him in the future. it's gonna gut me (like I'm sure your pup's passing did) when that day comes. I so badly hope he just passes in his sleep when it's his time because it'd destroy me to have to put him down.
Even though I grew up with a great black lab/german shepherd mixed dog, I wasn't that much of a dog person when we got our first wiener dog, which we sadly had to put down when her back half of the spine gave out and she couldn't walk. It's been 10 years and I still tear up at the thought of her.
I now fully understand the little old ladies who leave their fortunes for the care of their beloved pets. I laughed at the idea before I opened my heart to pooches, but I fully get it now.
I'm such a dog person now, it's kinda funny how I've gone 180 on that since I was in my 20s.

If that doesn't warm your heart, there's something seriously wrong with you.

Thanks kindly folks, much appreciate the kind words as usual. Yesterday was a day that ALL pet owners have to suffer at one point or another. A real lousy day, but good ole 'Teddy' had a great life and it was time to say goodbye. a horse and a dog so far. ugh!!! .... animals lol ... so the sting will start to reside, the heart rate will eventually return to somewhat normal, the stomach will settle down and the tears will eventually dry .... I wouldn't change a thing.

So what airplanes are we going to chat about now?

Mark, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My wife & I don't have a dog, but we have a cat named Silly Girl. She is like our kid. I know they don't live forever, but when she goes it's gonna be tough.
