Page Field, Ft Meyers, FL

Mon May 23, 2016 4:08 pm

I was on a quick turn at Page Field yesterday and outside of the FBO there is a really nice T-6 displayed. Its look just like Taylor's with the tall mask and wires. Does anyone have the back ground on it and was Page Field a training base back in WWII, more than likely...

I'm there a few times per year and had time only once to go examine the T-6. Looks great and I also wondered about its history and that of the field. Hope someone chimes in with more detail.

From Wiki:
Built in 1927 as a civil airport, Page Field was appropriated by the War Department at the beginning of World War II. Renamed Fort Myers Army Air Field, it was used by the United States Army Air Forces Third Air Force for antisubmarine patrols and conventional bomber training in the B-24 Liberator. The facility was returned to civil control of the State of Florida and then Lee County shortly after the end of the war.
