What happened to the CAF Indy 500 flyover..?..

Mon May 30, 2016 5:55 pm

The CAF Dixie wing was scheduled to do a flyover during the Indy 500 pre-race ceremonies with the SBD Dauntless and the Red Nose Mustang.

Instead the flyover was a TBM Avenger and a different Mustang.

I don't think the SBD has flown this year, down for repairs. The 500 was not listed on the wings flight schedule.

Nice to see the Tom Wood Mustang in the air. I saw the Air Force flyover during the pre race coverage but I missed the warbirds.

Thank you, I was in and out of the big airport last week and was thinking of them. At least I was able to see the Indy race track and Lucas Field...

The large hanger on the west side of the airport houses the collection.

SBD has been down due to a bad engine. I believe they just got a new one this past week and will have her back up in the air soon.
