What a great set of photographs! Thank you for sharing them here.

What is the purpose of the little half ring mounted directly behind the Hurricane spinner? Is it to catch drips? Direct air?

From what I understand it is to stop any leaking fluids from blowing back onto the canopy.

My only question is: Does TIGHAR know you've discovered Hans-Joachim Marseille?

Those are some GREAT photos! Does Stephen Grey still fly any big iron? I know a couple years ago he retired doing his "joker" routine but just wondered if he still fly's. Thanks.

Nice to see the American Museum taking shape. Is it open yet? And is that the same replica P-51? She looks a lot more authentic / original now.

The refurbishment and redevelopment of the American Air Museum has been a massive undertaking with all aircraft, including those suspended from the roof, being removed or manoeuvred to new positions to permit two fresh examples to be exhibited bringing the total to eighteen. The McDonnell Douglas F-15a formerly on external display has been totally refurbished and now ‘flys’ suspended. The former IWM Lambeth London P-51 that was previously painted as ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ is now re-finished as ‘Etta Jeanne II’, the personal mount of Huie Lamb, and this replaces the glass fibre replica previously exhibited.

Opened to public again in March 2016.
