An interesting show is shaping up for this year including the Snowbirds on Thursday June 30th at Vintage Wings in Gatineau. Just a few of the aircraft we expect to see. For more check here: http://envol.vintagewings.ca/performing-aircraft/

Now if the static aircraft (like the Sabre and Draken Skyhawk, etc.) were also PERFORMING in the show, this would be worthwhile coming across the border to see.....

Baby steps, this is to be the comeback year for VWC, by next year we may see the MK9 Spit flying and hopefully the MKXII Hurricane in Willy McKnight's colours soon after. The Sabre is awaiting a full NDT to be done before she is airborne again hopefully by next year.

Wish the museum the best and hope the June 30 event goes well! Look forward to seeing that Sabre flying again next year hopefully.

And I realize that Draken is a defense contractor and highly unlikely to fly in any air show. But love the red maple leaf on the tail of the Skyhawk!

The Harvard II is commemorating the RCAF Goldilocks Team which was a post WW2 Team not part of the BCATP
The CF18 is painted to recognize the 77th anniversary of the BCATP.
The RCAF is also celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the "400" series squadrons that cam about due to the additional aircrew produced by the BCATP

I'm at the Borden Airshow with the Lysander. Hoping to fly if the wind lets up!

The CHAT boys, (Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team) do a Goldilocks Pass as the final for their 4-plane formation display. It looks great! And so does the rest of their 4-plane show -- very smooth, lovely to watch.

The A-4 without the avionic hump looks strange after seeing the later/modded ones for all these years.
And the Corsair is a great looking ship....

The actually paint scheme for the Harvard II is now out, it represents #43 honouring John Gillespie McGee who wrote the poem "High Flight". These are the same markings applied the VWoC Harvard MkIV. Dave O' Malley had suggested this scheme when we celebrated the BCATP 75th anniversary. Good to see it finally done, would be really neat to see them fly together.

When is VWC going to get this thru their heads , 2016 its NOT the 75th anniversary of the BCATP
They are well aware of this but continue to refuse to correct their mistake
Not good for their already shaky reputation

Vintage Wings of Canada celebrated the 75th two years ago, Dave did his design in 2011 in anticipation of the BCATP anniversary in 2014. As a Vintage Wings volunteer I was involved and very aware of the importance of this event. I do remember being surprised that the CAF did not become involved, but since that was the reintroduction of the RCAF that year I guess this took precedent. The RCAF have chosen this year to celebrate the BCATP with their CF18 and Harvard II, better late than never.
From the RCAF site:
In 2016, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is commemorating Canada’s greatest contribution to the victory of Allied forces during the Second World War – the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) – which ran from 1939 to 1945.
2016 was selected to celebrate the five-year-long effort because the first Canadian squadrons that were established as a result of the Plan were formed in 1941 – 75 years ago.
These “400-series” squadrons continue to form the Royal Canadian Air Force of today; in essence, the RCAF as we know it came into existence 75 years ago as a direct result of the air training plan.
The 400-series squadrons were established because of a brief clause in the BCATP agreement known as “Article XV”: two vaguely worded but pivotal sentences in the history of the RCAF:
“The United Kingdom Government undertakes that pupils of Canada, Australia and New Zealand shall, after training is completed, be identified with their respective Dominions, either by the method of organizing Dominion units and formations or in some other way, such methods to be agreed upon with the respective Dominion Governments concerned. The United Kingdom Government will initiate inter-governmental discussions to this end.”
The agreement was signed on December 17, 1939, and training began in April 1940. Meanwhile, Canada and Great Britain entered negotiations to create at least 25 RCAF squadrons overseas, in addition to the three that had already been deployed. On January 7, 1941, representatives of the two nations signed a supplementary agreement governing the formation of the squadrons, which began coming into existence on March 1, 1941.

That statement is loosely based on the "corrected " RCAF press release that was issued after they were inundated with people and groups contacting them about the 75th BCATP mistake. This new release clears up the 75th anniversary issue .
So why is VWC clinging to this 75TH Anniversary of the BCATP idea ?
There is an incorrect and a totally misleading logo plastered all over their website
Its embarrassing that they would first off make this mistake and secondly refuse to admit to it and put theirs heads in the sand even after numerous Museums and aviation groups have contacted them about the mistake
An it will be even worse if they show up at Trenton this weekend with a pile of inaccurate swag to sell to the public. For an organization that wants to "inspire and educate " future generations ., they are missing the mark huge.
And I'm sorry but the RCAF has been around a lot longer than 75 years

What I meant Cam was that they reintroduced the RCAF name that year, the RCAF was formed April 1, 1924, my father was a 30 year veteran of the RCAF, and Air Chief Marshal (Bread) Breadner was a distant relative. I have to admit I was surprised to see the banner on the site as well but realized they did it to support the RCAF initially. I have allowed a bit of slack recognizing they have been in a reorganizing phase since 2014. I'll be over there on Friday when we launch the Corsair and will talk to Peter about it. Any comments here are my own not anything official from VWoC. I am a member and supporter just as interested in history and correctness as you are. I believe we met at Oshkosh in 2009 when we were involved with the 100th anniversary of flight in Canada.

I totally agree and nothing is aimed at you or your statements personally.
Peter and others at VWC have been informed about the mistake however no action has ever been taken .
There has been a lot of talk about what is happening at VWC and much of it not good.
Doing something like this does not help to repair their reputationin anyway.
Yes I think we have met thru various events . If you are coming to Trenton , stop by the Finch and say hi

Can't make Trenton this year unfortunately, my old stomping grounds, but am ground Crew when we launch the Corsair to Trenton Friday morning. Hopefully everything goes Ok. Was involved when we rebuilt the main spar on our Finch was parts man at the time, also tried to locate a canopy for it. Thought Blake had a lead on one not sure if it came through. I am seeing things move more positively at VWoC having been involved from the start its been interesting to say the least. Will be interesting to see what develops.
