Abandoned Aircraft Wreck Recovery in Canada?

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone was aware of the laws concerning the recovery of abandoned aircraft wrecks in Canada? I've been doing some research on the matter but am finding it difficult to narrow things down law wise. Basically all I've been able to find is the "Canadian Shipping Act" but I'm not sure if that applies to a wreck that is just on the land (not in water). Any details or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Wasn't there a thread on here a few years ago about a crashed PBY in BC or Vancouver Island that discussed something similar WRT the Canadian salvage laws???

Just read about the B-26 in the Yukon. Looks like the guys to salvaged it did get some kind of a salvage reward but they lost the plane. I wonder if the Yukon government will actually restore it or just end up scrapping it?

Thanks guys! Yeah I did look into that one a bit.. Seems like the Yukon has some of the strictest laws concerning historical remains on their land. Most other provinces don't seem as bad though. I wasn't able to find the PBY thread but I'll keep searching. Making some progress!

I heard a year or two ago a group got together and recorded all the known crashed planes in canada they could come up with and added them to the royal antiquities preservation record or some bs like that....so now you cant touch them but they are preserved outside to rust away!...smart move...lol....like the USA's naval protection act........if all this crashed stuff is soo important to these people go spend thousands of your dollars locating them and hauling them out of the forest or lakes and putting them inside to conserve and display them!..........its baloney in my opinion.......if a private party spends his resources to locate this stuff and its abandoned he should be able to file for ownership and have a year or two to get the stuff off the natural lands they soo love....

underwater there is if you got the money........there is a bunch of stuff up there that I've heard of.......had a friend who collected info on a bunch of sunken planes for years all around canada......problem is there is more water in canada then all of the usa combined!...Id love to get the motors off that York that crashed outside of yellowknife in the 50s..would love to have those merlins for a warbird project....how about a barge full of crated hawker hurricanes that sunk with all its cargo? That would be the find of a lifetime!

I remember there was a recent change to Canadian laws. They are allowing permit required recoveries. I believe B-17 parts recovered is a recent example.

That York in Yellowknife is long gone. The centersection was still there in the early eighties but it got dug up and hauled out and I think the location has now been paved over. The Merlins were gone well before that though.

FWIW.....semi-related. I was doing some USCG research on the below website a while back. I was researching the rum runner days. There were a few articles about aircraft flying between the US and Canada running hooch. Some of those early aircraft did crash....some in Lake Ontario, some in the bush.
