Very shocking. I am a part time docent at the EAA museum in Oshkosh. The Bugatti is always part of the tour I give.
I always ask people to tell me when they think the airplane was built. I've had answers like 1990, 1960, 2015, etc. They are amazed when I tell them 1939. Will be very interested to find out what the cause was. RIP Scotty Wilson. I had no idea they were planning a single engine 2 seater. How cool would that have been.

Saw it in this morning's Tulsa World newspaper. The story headline just said "man killed in crash of experimental aircraft" When I saw the aircraft type involved my heart just sank.

I see they had a GoPro mounted on the Bugatti along with a camera in the chase helicopter; hope they can piece together what went wrong. Were there any problems on the previous two flights?

There was a gear collapse early on which required the replacement of the props IIRC. Don't know what, if anything, was done to the gearbox and drive shafts in that incident.
