Tribute to Victory October 27, 1945 ... or ...

Sat Oct 08, 2016 9:17 am

... "The battle of LA, part 3". This thread is "wardbird" related, no really it is! ... go get em!

Photo series state: "Tribute to Victory October 27, 1945. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum during a Navy Day celebration. Tribute to Victory, a program which honors American victories in both the European and Pacific theaters." (you reenactment professionals can now have more to be proud of lol)

So anyone have an idea what type airplane is in the first photo?

Looks like a Brewster Buffalo to me.

Could you imagine them trying to do something like that today? The Battle of Fallujah, anyone? Maybe do some hard passes with an A-10?

Very nice indeed.

PS: It seems like everyone stood for the national anthem!

Notice something different about the emblem and the starboard horizontal stab in the two pics?? Two different aircraft??

I think the previous photo shows it before it was reassembled (note the wing off to the right in the first photo) and decorated with a slapped-on Japanese meatball; otherwise definitely the same plane - note the "G" at the top of the fin (National Guard?) and the lighter patch where the serial was painted out.
