Mustang ID Help

Wed Jan 04, 2006 10:23 am

Good Morning Wixer’s!
I’m looking at today’s page on the Golden age of Flight desktop calendar and do not recognize the civil Mustang pictured today. No N# or Serial # is visible.
It is a dark green over grey scheme with a star and bar and no nose art.
One white stripe on each wing and the vertical and it has a yellow rudder and purple nose with a small yellow stripe separating the green from the purple just ahead of the exhaust stacks. Anyone recognize this scheme?
Some of the pictures in the calander are obviously several years and in some cases several decades old!
Anyone else have this calendar? Can anyone tell me which P-51 this is?
Thanks In Advance…

Ugly Mustang: Hmm. Surely you'd agree the Rolls Royce Ltd original botch-job is ugly, Y11F?

The colours look like the early P-51B style that were first used in Europe, differentiating from the Me109 by the white stripes.

As to ID, dunno.

..of course there is the "old saw"..it's his money, so he can "paint-up" his
bird as he likes. Too bad she doesn't have a say in the process.

Man that's awful! Must be an old photo as I'd hate to think such a paint job lasted into the new Millenium.
