Airplane Museum Ready to Open Soon

A new historic airplane museum is just about to open in Rexburg.
At the Legacy Flight Museum in Rexburg, there are planes that flew in World War Two, Korea and even Vietnam.
“We're going to have one of the coolest collections in the Western United States as far as unusual and unique airplanes,” said museum founder and owner John Bagley.
From King Cobras to P-51's Mustangs to Douglas Skyraiders, this museum has got it all. It's all about neat looking airplanes and educating people about aviation and history.
"School kids can come. There will be fieldtrips here on everything from kindergarten to college kids to learn about aviation on their level,” Bagley said.
They call it the Legacy Flight Museum. This 18,000 square foot building will be home to between 10 and 12 historic restored airplanes.
This North American P-51 airplane is one of 15,000 planes built in World War Two; 150 still fly today and you can find two here at the Legacy Flight Museum -- and they still fly.
“I fly all of these planes that are in here. These are not static airplanes. These are airplanes that all fly regularly,” said Bagley.
Bagley knows how to work all of these controls and says that in the summer from time to time he'll sell a few rides to people to earn money to maintain the museum.
"I've been in love with airplanes since I was four years old,” Bagley said.
And it shows -- John has been collecting these historic airplanes for the past 10 years. For example, this Avenger was used in World War Two. President Bush's father was shot down in a plane like this. This particular plane sunk two ships in Japan.
"We've got old propellers, old engines and all sorts of fun stuff that will be here in the museum,” added Bagley.
The museum will be open to the public starting with a grand opening February 3 and 4 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Legacy Flight Museum will also be accepting any donations or loans of any kind of war memorabilia that you might have to add to the museum's collection. To donate, call (208) 351-0044.

Yes... North of Idaho Falls. Rexburg is on the West side of the Tetons from Jackson, WY. My dad worked as a fly-fishing guide up in Rexburg for a few years. Last time I was there a couple years ago we were coming back from fishing and stopped by the airport and Danny Summers showed us around his hangar and Bagley's. Danny was kind enough to let me sit in his TBM, Skyraider and in Bagley's Mustang which is Bob Hoovers old machine. Bagley's Staggerwing and King Cobra were there as well. Danny is an aviation enthusiast all the way... he was like a kid showing me his favorite toys in his toy box!

My parents just moved to Idaho and I availed myself of the opportunity to visit the museum while I was in the area for Thanksgiving. With the exception of the mustang that crashed not too long ago (currently being repaired) I think I saw all the planes they have.
Here are some of the pics I took:
Well worth the $6 admission except for the fact that it induces an incurable longing to fly in them, a very real possibility as every aircraft pictured is flown on a regular basis and for enough money they are more than happy to take you for a ride ($600 for a 30 min ride in a mustang). Man oh man I want a ride!

Nice pics! I haven't seen any pics of the blue Skyraider before. Is that the one owned by Danny Summers?

Maybe. I was lucky to get that one shot of it when i came out later it was gone so the guy who gave me the tour couldn't tell me about it.

Thats not larger than life, thats' how tall he is. The way he flys he has to be that tall to keep certain antonomical parts from dragging the ground.

That was imported from France/Africa along with another AD-4 which became Naked Fanny. Dick Bertea owned it then and a lot of work was done by Pacific Fighters. When I worked at PF I did a bit of work on this AD as well as an AD-5 that Bertea owned for a while.

Danny owns the two Skyraiders, TBM as well as the T-6. The Stearman might be his also. One of the nicest people you could ever meet.
