T-33 in Winnepeg

Thu Jan 26, 2006 3:36 pm

Back in the early 1970's I was working at a missile site in North Dakota, and travelled frequently to Winnepeg as it was the closest big town. One time I went to a Highland Festival in a park on the west side of Winnepeg (can't recall the name of the park) and asked directions as to how to get there. Was told to go down this particular street and turn at the airplane. Turned out the plane was a T-33 on a pedestal at the entrance to this park. I wonder if the plane's still there? I haven't been back to Winnepeg since 1974.

I posted your question on a Canada centric email list. The gurus there had the following discussion.

Jeff Rankin-Lowe...
Sounds like 21232 in Woodhaven Park in the St James area of Winnipeg. It's in "Golden Centennaires" colours, but it was never one of the team's aircraft. It was s/o/s on 9 May 1967. The info I have is that it
went to the City of Winnipeg in 1990, but the date is unconfirmed and
that probably only applies to actual ownership, not necessarily its
location. I saw it there in 1992.

Jerry Vernon...
Sounds reasonable!! As far as I know, there are only the two T-Birds mounted in Winnipeg....this one and the one at the No. 1 Canadian Air Division Air Park. WCAM also have a T-33.

As I recall (vaguely) there was some controversy within the group several
years back that this one in Centennaires colours may NOT be painted with its true s/n. Is that right, or am I thinking of a different aircraft somewhere else?? It probably came up when we were beating the T-Bird topic to death and had a list of the aircraft distributed by Northwest Industries to various museums, Legions, Air Force Association Wings, pedestals, etc.

It is still there, colours starting to fade. I see it every time I go to the Peg and in fact will be driving by it tomorrow.

If it is then it is 21186 RCAF / 133186 CAF.

Apparently there is another pole mounted Silver Star with the ID quoted as "21232", which may not be accurate.
