I was treated with the sights and sounds of Gunfighter giving rides the last 2 days, thank you. Kinda like Empire of the Sun, but I didn't climb up on the roof and run around...

One of my co-workers asked me this morning about "the piece that fell off one of the CAF planes this weekend in Dallas". Anyone know anything about this? Maybe a piece of cowling or a landing gear door? I didn't watch the TV news, but he said there was a mention of it on the news Sunday night.

One of the lefthand gear doors came off of Yellow Rose and hit the horizontal damaging it and the elevator. I've seen pictures...pretty ugly...pretty lucky.

Unfortunate because one of the neighborhood malcontents posted it to FB as reason why we shouldn't have those "vintage" airplanes flying over densely populated areas.
In any case, I went on Sunday with Stang Jr. and the Mrs. and we had a wonderful time. Lots of stuff for kids of all ages. A great show. Hoping for it to grow in years to come.

Years ago, on the Rose, we had a rudder trim bolt depart one of the rudder trims and it was shake rattle and roll down on to a Navy reserve base in South Texas...

Funny thing, there's been more parts of "modern" aircraft land in the back of people's yards around Executive the last few years (including at least 1 tire), so if you're concerned about debris - don't live by an airport.

Though I didn't have the information regarding "modern" aircraft at hand, that was essentially my response. It was basically a NIMBY argument. It's OK, the airshow passed without (major) incident and I'm sure some other complaint has taken center stage.
If not at Dallas Executive, where else you going to have an airshow and it still be a "Dallas" airshow? Someone mentioned Hensley, but I don't even know if they have an operational runway.

Well, I'd say Lancaster after they extend the runway in the next couple years would be a good one, but I'm biased.

In all seriousness though, Hensley does still have a runway that is nominally maintained, but the problem is 17/35 runs right up to the edge of the airfield and Jefferson Street, which would be a definite issue for the airshow box. Even if you used the former 13/31 as the "airshow line", you'd be forcing the performers to overly the former Vought plant, again, not ideal. At least with Executive/Red Bird, you have full protection areas off the end of all runways and it's easy to keep the airshow box completely within the airport bounds by putting the airshow line on 17/35 with the only structures for almost a mile to the west being the National Guard armory and the Dallas Police Academy.

Lancaster would be far better from an afternoon photography standpoint...
