Tue Jan 03, 2017 1:09 am

DUAN first book review from Schifferbooks for 2017 focuses on the USAAF 448th Bomb Group (H) who from 1943 to 1945 flew the B-24 Liberator bomber in hundreds of missions from RAF Seething across Europe as part of the 8th Air Force's involvement in the strategic air war on Germany.

Author Jeffery Brett details the history of the unit from training to moving to Europe, initial combat experiences, then monthly war and mission are reviewed along with insights to life on the base

Sadly the all to frequent horrors of the air war appear in the recollection of the veterans as they detail how many of the units B-24s were decimated by the Luftwaffe in what were at time ferocious air battles. These gripping personal insights from the veterans include the struggles both in the air and on the ground that they faced in keeping the bombers working and flying under the harsh Europe.weather. A detailed appendices at the end helps to throw some light on the B-24 operations during WW2 in Europe.
