Anyone with P-63 Parts Available, please shout!

Tue Jan 03, 2017 4:31 pm

We're on the look out for a few P-63 parts if anyone has any in their shed, under their pillow or just on a shelf in their hangar.

We particularly need a throttle, (part number 124227) and mounting bracket, control column and any door parts. Also instrument panel if anyone has an original in their collection otherwise we can manufacture one. Also the rudder/elevator and aileron trim controls.

Other parts we need are the myriad of electrical actuators and motors and associated gearboxes which make the type tick. And fuel tanks, we need wing bladder tanks if anyone has a set.

Also need a structural repair manual, ideally a digital copy (we have the parts catalogue and maintenance books), but the structural repair book is proving difficult to track down, and while AC43 is good...........

Other parts we need, big bits, are horizontal stab, elevators and rudder, or recognisable remains thereof.

If anyone has any of the above or has seen such on their travels, or anything King Cobra for that matter, please do drop me a note.

Thank you

Is this for an airworthy restoration or a static one? My understanding is a lot of P-63 parts are extremely rare and can only be obtained by trade and not bought.

I assume that you've contacted all of the surviving flyable P-63 owners/museums that own them?

In addition to these, you might want to contact Steve Hinton at Fighter Rebuilders, and Carl or Tony at Aero Trader, as they've both been known to have P-63 parts in the past. Whether they still have any or even have want you want, I don't know.

Also, try contacting the Hunt brothers in England, as they brought back 6 from Russia a few years back:

I also seem to remember - maybe somebody can correct me on this - that Doug Champlain also recovered 4 to 6 P-63's out of Russia back in the 90's. I don't know where those are now or what the status of them is. You might try contacting GossHawk aviation in Arizona as Dave Goss worked for Champlain at one time and might have a lead on their current whereabouts or if they are available for purchase, trade, or barter.

There was also a P-63 project for sale on Courtesy's website recently that was a substantial collection of parts, though nearly complete, as I recall. It was in the Santa Rosa, CA region, if memory serves me correctly. I don't know if that project sold or if the owner decided not to sell. Perhaps somebody here can give an update on that project and its current disposition. The current owner of that project may be of use to you.

Finally, keep an eye on Ebay. You would be surprised what stuff pops up there from time to time. I have seen various P-63 items at auction over the years, so you may have to be patient to find what you need.

Several years ago on THe FIghter Factory's old website they listed a few projects for sale. Remember seeing three or four P-63's that had been retrieved from a dump in Alaska or somewhere. They had been trampled by a bulldozer but had lots of useful parts. Suggest tracking down where those projects are now.

Hi, thanks for the questions.

This is for a flying restoration. We're lucky in so much as we already have some of the difficult bits - good gearboxes, prop-shafts, prop control unit, prop hub, radiators, landing gear, oil coolers etc.

Yes, e-bay has been a useful place - our spinner came from there along with the fuel pumps and a myriad of other parts! However, we do need a back-plate for our spinner - anyone?????

Thank you

backing plates are SAE 1010 carbon steel like the spinners so they rust, better off making one new.

i have several with and without armor plate, only good if you heat and repress them.

That would be tough, given yours is 3 blade and P-63 has four.

I have a get of unused P-63 exhaust minus one piece if you are interested. Also a few other small items like a cockpit fuel selector. Send me your email and I'll send photos if interested. Dave
