Off Topic, but Holy Cow

He went to jail because he violated the law, not because he had an alternate opinion. Things are a little different over there I'll agree. I don't think that law would hold up in court in the US, but then again we have the first amendment (and maybe even the second at times). We are headed that direction though, just you wait!

Irving is a criminally-convicted liar, and an unfrocked historian. He does not 'have a different opinion of history' but has lied and created fraudulent information claiming that the Holocaust did not happen.

He was convicted in the UK for fraud, and attempted to sue the big bookshop chain Waterstones who had refused to stock his racist books.

Having followed his dubious activities it is important that his desire to re-write history is called to account, and time in jail is perfectly deserved as a direct result of his activities.

Freedom of speech is an important civil right but there is not (in the USA, Great Britain or Austria) the freedom to perpetuate fraud of history to the extent Irving has done.

As they say, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Thoroughly deserved.
