Need help - how to take apart WWII Hamilton Standard Dome

Need some help with this Hamilton Standard 23E50 WWII propellar dome:
The steel threaded ring on the bottom...how does it come off? It finally spins with a bunch of Kroil, but is the actual dome threaded as well? I've spun the ring one full turn...but it does not seem to thread off. So - some help is needed as to how it actually comes off.
