This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

The thread that resulted in the ID of a Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer got me wondering - to date, how many warbirds and vintage aircraft have been recovered from Iraq/Afghanistan since the latest troubles began there in the early 2000s?
Anyone have a list? I seem to recall some Sea Furies coming out and maybe some earlier vintage Hawker fighters?
I know the NMUSAF got that wingless MiG-25. Did the petting zoo come up with anything?

I remember this story. Very cool. Makes you wonder what all they've pulled out of there besides airplanes. I seem to recall an inter-war era tank being pulled out of there.

IIRC the Patton museum at Ft Knox received an FT-17 light tank. There may have been others.

I think it was this tank

As I recall in reading the stuff posted by it, they found -2- of these and by the time it took them to get a truck to haul them, someone had removed the carburetors.........
The tanks actually belong to the National Armor and Cavalry Museum, at Fort Benning, Georgia. My son and I were there the last week it was open at Fort Knox. The Patton Museum is still at Fort Knox but they moved the tanks.

My apologies for the dead link on my previous post.
It was meant to illustrate the restored ex-Afghan Ro.37bis now on display at the Italian Air Force Museum at Vigna di Valle.
