Gone West: Robert L. Shaw Figher Pilot and Author

Fri Mar 17, 2017 8:38 am

Robert L. "Mouse" Shaw - F-4, F-14 and F-16 pilot, TOPGUN graduate, author of:

"Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering"

and my instructor and good friend passed away Wednesday evening at 10:30pm after a long, difficult bout with cancer.

I first flew with Mouse in the late 90's when I visited him in Ohio. I asked him to show me how to get in and out of spins. We went up on a Cessna 152 and did just that. This was even before I got my private pilot's license.

I last saw Mouse this past July - after he told me he was sick. I flew my RV-8 down to Lancaster South Carolina and we went up together in the -8. He was curious to know if my -8 could be gotten into a spin. Mouse owned an RV-8 and there was a little too much weight in the nose of his and he couldn't spin it.

So the last flight we took together was doing spins.

He's gonna be missed.

By the way, if there are any ex "Air Warrior" or "Warbirds" sim players here and if they now how to get a hold of "Moggy" and/or "Twist" please let me know. Thanks

Thanks for the PM. I got a hold of Moggy and informed him about Mouse's departure. He's informing Twist and a bunch of other guys.

There's a "Service of Thanksgiving and Comfort" at Banks Presbyterian Church on the 25th at 3:30pm

Banks Presbyterian Church

Marvin, NC. 28173

There's also a Celebration of life dinner on the 25th but that's by invitation only.

Burial will be at Arlington in a few months. That's really all I have.
