This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

My choice will come later!

Of all the warbirds flying today which do you think is best brushing aside performance and technology, hope this makes it better. Also I'm putting a major emphasis on American aircraft.

My vote goes toward the B-29. Because of the lack of them today.

What, no F-4 on this one ? 1 F-4 can carry as much as a squadron of B-17s.

And costs just about as much to operate......

I put the F-4 under the Fighter category and there is no B-26 because there aren't any flying as of todays date. Yes, I believe there is one in flying shape but isn't flown on a regular basis. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I saw the F-4 under fighter but I fugured it qualified for both lists.
But.... why no A-26 ?

I classify the A-26 as more of an Attack aircraft.

Lancaster without any doubt.

My choice is the B-17 Flying Fortress based on her appearance which is classic and the number of them flying and under restoration.

the rarer the better in my opinion!!!!

B-24 (see current avatar) - my uncle will come back and haunt me if I say anything else

I always really enjoy the sight of the Collings Foundation B24 & B17 flying together and wonder just how nice it would be to see (hoping against hope here):
Colling's "Witchraft"
Mr. Week's "Joe"
and...
The LSFM's PB4Y-2
...all flying in formation...
(and perhaps with one of those recently sold former H&P PB4Y-2's as well)
That would be some sight, wouldn't it?
And, how about Doc & FiFi flying together? (I know we have talked about that day A LOT.)
Being self-employed, there are only so many non-income producing days days you can take to view warbirds, so I was not able to attend "Thunder" last August to see all those B17's. I am sure the video, as good as it is, just can not do justice to seeing and hearing 8 overhead in person.
Watching 3 B17's and one B25 do a missing man formation over Oshkosh last Summer (at least two different days) was pretty special.
I still recall very well and more than a little fondly, my first trip to Geneseo in '91 and the sight of 5 b17's in a V, followed by a B24 in trail, followed by a Lancaster in trail. A sight & sound to behold for sure.

from a wallet standpoint probably the b-25, ample spare parts supply still out their etc, etc. that's probably why it is winning the poll!!
