Today was a Great Day

Sat Feb 25, 2006 10:50 pm

The other day I was reading the article of the restored P-51 Sweet and Lovely in the winter issue of Warbird Digest. In one of the paragrapghs its mentions her pilot Bill Patillo and how he and his brother both flew P-51s during the war and after they were the first Thunderbird pilots. I then remembered my grandfather telling me a couple of weeks ago he went to this group for retired vets and 2 of the guys there were original Thunderbird pilots. Well it took me a while to put 1 and 1 together. And today I got to meet them. We didnt get to talk very much today but Buck told me about some of their missions, how the Thunderbirds got started and they both told me some great advice about getting into the acedemy(even offered to write a recomendation). They are both really interesting guys and I hope to talk to them again soon.
