This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Thinking about subscribing to a warbird magazine. Any reviews? Or suggestions as to what the best warbird magazine is? Warbird Digest, Classic wings, Flypast? looking for something with US and European stuff.

Are you interested in combat history or just the aircraft?
If it's just the aircraft do you mean type history or currently flying "warbirds"?
Different magazines have different emphases.

Recommend you buy a few and let your desire and wallet decide.
I do not currently subscribe to any in a de-cluttering drive, but generally I found Flypast hard to beat for a good mix of restoration projects, latest news, pictures and lots of historical pieces. Tends to be a bit more UK focused (granted given it's base) but has subjects from all over the place. I tended to not learn as much from some of the other mags, but still buy one occasionally (or Flypast) if the subjects interest me. Flypast seems a bit more filling than some of the others.

Classic Wings is always a winner and really connects history with current warbird activities.

I personally would go for Classic Wings, Flypast used to be great but now it seems to be lacking somehow, can't put my finger on why, but it has lost the way a bit. At the end of the day it's down to personal choice though.

For me, I have enjoyed Classic Wings perhaps the most, for the warbird-related news and articles, which covers warbird activity across the globe (others seem too often to be centered on just specific regions, like the California and UK warbirds). Also, unlike so many other publications in which their "news" is more often than not already old by the time the magazines are published (due to forums like this and Facebook), Classic Wings always seems to have scoop on some interesting warbird activities/restorations/movements well before it reaches the internet. I have also been a long-time fan of Warbird Digest, but primarily for the photography.

Classic Wings is about as good as it gets. Even the physical magazine itself is of a very high quality.

For Warbird specific content I think Classic Wings is the best. High quality magazine and they consistently feature aircraft and projects that I was unaware of.
My second pick is Air & Space, it's not Warbird specific (but has enough of them) and also has great content.

Good choice, don't think you'll be disappointed with it.

Interesting to see this pop up as I was wondering the same thing this week.
But I was trying to decide between Warbirds International and Air Classics. Both look identical from what I can tell, but WI has 12 issues and the quarterly Mustang one. Can't decide...

Bravo, Fouga! I was about to add my voice to the Classic Wings crowd. Got my first issue in May 1998, have been a subscriber for more than ten years (I'm sure DaveM2 can say how long - I'm well-known to the CW team for my constant address changes!

). The editor is a seasoned warbird and vintage owner operator and has a great bunch of photogs and writers on the books who really know their stuff. Plus he's a great guy!

Wise Choice. That would have been my recommendation as well

I subscribe to both and don't regret it. They've both improved greatly in the last few years. I always learn something new, or see something I haven't seen before.

I subscribe to Classic Wings and Warbird Digest. Warbird Digest has really stepped up its game in the last couple of years. Excellent in depth articles and great photography. Very often the photos actually compliment the story, something other magazines tend to forget.
