Spanish AF KC-97s

Sun Feb 26, 2006 1:32 pm

In response to a request by Michel Lozares I have updated my webpage: http://www.ruudleeuw.com/cuatro_vientos04.htm
with his info and hope that it may result in additional info regarding his request for more detailed info and/or photos in active use
Am also looking for a year of decomissioning of the 3 KC-97s with the Spanish AF.

Subject: KC-97 info please.

Hi ALL

I´m Michel Lozares, a volunteer of the Spanish Air Force Museum (Museo del Aire, Cuatro Vientos).

We have in our collection a KC-97G >>L, s/n 53-189, that served in the Spanish AF. I have his USAF history (by AFHRA)

Manufactured by Boeing Aircraft, Seattle WA and delivered to the USAF on 31 Mar 1955.
Mar 1955 To 42nd Bombardment (Heavy) Wing (Strategic Air Command), Loring AFB ME (deployments to Thule AB Greenland)
Feb 1958 To 19th Air Refueling (Medium) Squadron (SAC), Homestead AFB FL
Apr 1960 To Otis AFB MA
Jul 1962 To 4038th Strategic Wing (SAC), Otis AFB
Jun 1963 To 499th Air Refueling Wing (SAC), Otis AFB
Dec 1965 To Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center, Davis-Monthan AFB AZ
Jun 1971 To Hayes Aircraft, Birmingham AL (to KC-97L)
Oct 1971 To 136th Air Refueling Group (Air National Guard), Dallas IAP TX
May 1973 Dropped from inventory by transfer to Military Assistance Program

I would appreciate any info about this plane or pictures for a future monographic for our Museum, please. Could anyone to help me please??

Kind Regards
Michel

Ruud,

Can you pm to me an email address for Michel Lozares?

I have many questions he may be able to help me with concerning the CASA 2111 (He111) at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, which was assigned to 403 squadron at Cuatro Vientos from 1956 until 1972.

Thanks

Julian

Wasn't there a former EdA (Spanish AF) KC-97 somewhere in North Texas?

Michel Lozares gave me the decomissioning data; googling those USAF serials may tell more of their past (am a bit tied up at the moment which prevents me from doingit myself):

The date of decomission in the Ejercito del Aire of the KCs is

TK.1-02 ( USAF s/n 53-0225) >> 9 September 1975
TK.1-01 ( USAF s/n 53-0172) >> 23 September 1976
TK.1-03 ( USAF s/n 53-0189) >> 23 September 1976

The museum´s KC (03) arrived to the museum in 19 august 1986

Refresh my memory here, Rob, but, wasn't the 4038th only stationed at Dow AFB? if so that would make it a Dow bird Also.
