FHC Monopod Photography Policy Change - Heads Up

Hi all,

Just got back from a visit today to Flying Heritage Collection where we were doing our usual high-angle shoot with our monopod. We were asked to cease using the monopod overhead and informed that there's new policy regarding monopods - you can use one, but it must stay on the ground - no more lifting it up for high-angles.

Mrs VB inquired and was told that due to someone (an idiot) with a selfie-stick DROPPING a phone into the cockpit of a plane, that now monopods MUST stay on the ground in the museum.

Yet another example of stupidity ruining things for the rest of us.

When we first visited Udvar-Hazy in 2008, I was actually encouraged to use my monopod. By our next visit in 2014, they'd been banned (the downtown NASM has never allowed them.) I've been using mine in the USAF Museum for years, but everytime we go, I expect to be told they've been banned.

As someone who works in security at an (art) museum, all I will say is that protecting the artworks/exhibits is the first priority.
