F8 E (FN) Crusader Panel

Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:11 am

this arrived this morning and I was expecting a Chance Vought part number

Instead I have an unusual part number

EIVM-220.4202 and EIVM-220.4201

The inspectors stamp is MD/T1 in a circle.

The paint is correct for Aeronavale and the aluminium is anodised .

After a few hours on the internet I cant see this panel on any F8 - so is it from something else ?

Thank you for any suggestions

Possibly a replacement panel manufactured in France?

Lance the thought crossed my mind - but there are only two panels on the F8 that match this shape

1. just under the trailing edge of the starboard wing
2 mid fuselage between tail and rudder on the port side.

In all the pictures I can see there is a centre reinforcing rib on the hatch of both - telltale rivet signs on images. There is none on this panel.

It looks like an ETENDARD IV M panel. In French navy, E IVM was used to depict this aircraft on documentation, flight orders and parts.
At the end of their operational life, some Etendard received a grey-blue scheme on the upper surfaces. The color was close to the Crusader one, but a little more grey as I remember.

Thank you ALU - I can clearly see it on the aircraft as well.
