T28 Chat: How would you describe this?

An A with a B motor. Isn't that a SUD, Fennec, or D?

I'd kinda think it would have to be. The modifications to do the big engine thing means it is something else. You can't just drop an 1820 into an A without some serious mods, structural and all.

Another thought/question. I've only got to examine A's, B's and C's. I've never checked out D's, Fennecs or SUD's. I'm at work now so I can't check the very few T28 books I have, and I'm not sure this is even in there, but,

I think, on one of the big engine A conversions, the plane did not have a speed brake. Which one, or ones was this?

Don't get me wrong, I like all T28's, but big engine wise, the speed brake is part of the fun.

Nice plane though. Anyone seen it? Unique paint job too. Where is that from?

Well, thanks again WIX for listening to me ramble.

Check again mate.

It's a T-28A with the small engine, I only count 7 cylinders in there.

It might be a R-1300B?

All Fennecs were made by Sud-Aviation.

If you look at the pics closely, you will see there are only 2 stacks per side. It still has the R-1300, what he is refering to is the fact it is a R-1300B engine

Anyone know what a R-1300 is?
1) a time bomb
2) a ruined R-2600
3) a boat anchor
4) a higher premium on your life insurance
5) all

The T-28A I took care of had the R-1300 and it had no problems that any other high time engine had, a few oil leaks and a bad exhaust valve. They did not make many of them as say the 1820, but it is a good engine
