P-39 "Big D"

Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:28 am

My apologies if this is old news...didn't realize CAF Centex Wing's Cobra "Miss Connie" had been rechristened!

(Or am I just the last one to the party...again...)

They'll have to change the paint to 345th FS, 350th FG as Big D was flown by Lt. Jack Ogilvie from that unit. He's still living btw and probably down that way

He ended up a Captain from what I could find on the net.

In fact, the few pics I can find of the P-39s his unit flew, it looks like all they need to do is put proper ETO bars on the star, the subdued/dark 13 on the door, and chain the fin to have a yellow or white "Swoosh" across the top instead of a stripe (no color photos and I'm not a B&W color "expert" :) ). The spinners appear to have been red, so that's already done. I see some paintings and images of yellow aft fuselage and wing stripes, but the couple of pics that were definitely the 435th FS didn't show the stripes on their P-39s, only on the P-47s.

Needs yellow MTO bands on the wing and around the tail. Red spinner, yellow 13 on the door etc. It's still a PTO scheme with Jack's name and plane name on it.
