C46 Commando question?

Tue Aug 01, 2017 5:49 pm

Hello all,

Is there someone around here who can tell if the horizontal and vertical stabilizer of the C46 Commando are made with a aluminium layer or a fabric one like the ones on the C47 Dakota.
And if it is the same for the ailerons?
In my opinion and after studying a lot of pictures i am convinced that all of these moveable surfaces are aluminium cladded instead of fabric/linen...

Best regards,

Jan

If the linked document is to be trusted...

..."the ailerons are the only fabric covered surfaces on the C-46".

Hello Dan,

Thank you very much for this info it is very helpfull!
However i have the idea that with later commando's the ailerons where modified to adapt aluminium as i have seen some pictures were it looks like they are riveted and have the same color as the polished aluminium of the wing.
You also never see a photo of a Commando that has the faded or damaged fabric look as i call it.
If some can chime in on this, i would be very gratefull.

Dan thanks again for the superb link.

Best regards,

Jan
