Any Museums in need of Sikorsky S-55 Airframes/Parts?

Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:42 pm

Is anyone on WIX aware of any reputable, 501C3 museums in need of Sikorsky S-55, (H-19, HO4S, or HRS) parts or complete airframes for restoration? I'm already in contact and working with the Estrella Warbird, Connecticut ASM, and McChord AFB museums. If you know of any others, please post or PM me. Time is short. Weeks, not months.

I was going to suggest Connecticut Air & Space Center :) Hope whatever parts need saving find a good home!

BUMP.

Come on WIXers...surely there must be some outfit that would like one.
They're fairly small and narrow, so they won't take up much room and since they were operated by everyone, the paint scheme choice is virtually unlimited.

Paging Woodsy, Coop and Nathan...

As for Woodsy...I have made arrangements for a museum in New Jersey to acquire the H-19D and H-19C remains that I have. No removal plans are in play yet...Don't know if that group would make trip to the west coast....I have to make sure that they are serious... 8)

Been busy restoring the L2 so haven't had much time, but I may know of a museum in Illinois that could be interested. I'll pass along this info.

FWIW...there is, it's just not being discussed publicly.

I hope so. No harm in reminding folks.
I'm just hoping every docked museum ship, Coast Guard station, Marine reserve unit or air museum...not to mention VFW/American Legion/Vietnam veterans post to at least consider an acquisition. :)

The S-55/H-19 is arguably the first useful military helicopter, and as such deserves to be preserved, and thus remembered.
