B-25 H -J Cockpit Air Inlet

Wed Oct 11, 2017 1:30 pm

I was sent a pile of aircraft parts last week.

Amongst the parts was a green painted air scoop/inlet with no identity.

The casting has a part number 98-53425.

FYI it is 12 inches long, 4 inches high and 5 inches wide. The casting is heavy aluminium alloy. The fairing at the rear is shaped aluminium.

Checking aircraft with a 98 part number and comparing images - suggests that this is the port side cockpit air inlet from a B-25 model H and/or J.

Two questions - can anyone confirm the identity from the part number?

Secondly why do only some of the model H and J B-25's have the air inlet present - tropical variant or have they been lost/removed over the last 70 years ?

Thank You.

It's a cabin heater inlet for a B-25.
