I know it probably been on here before but I need my memory refreshed, where did the P-47 at the TFLM come from?

It wasn't exactly hard to find.

It’s defintely been discussed before but I never remember, why/how is this a Razorback D model? Did they make some like that?

There was quite a large number of razorback P-47D's, from the production batches of P-47D-15, P-47D-16, P-47D-20, P-47D-21, P-47D-22, and P-47D-23 variants - this being prior to the P-47D-25 "bubbletop" and later variants.

Thank you for linking to my updates, Mike!

Anyone who happens to have a photo of 42-27609 while it was in combat service, please contact me. We don't yet have an image of it in squadron colors, just many images of it as a wreck long after it was abandoned and shoved aside.

It was a natural metal finish P-47D-23RA, 5th AF, likely 35th Fighter Group, but could be 348th. The research to solve that has been ongoing for 3 years.

If you enjoy the updates at

I'd encourage you to click on "download original PDF". It is in blue just under the first photo of each update. The PDF is a better presentation in my opinion and you don't have to click through slideshows, all the photos show up on the multi-page PDF.
