FHC AIRCRAFT STATUS UPDATE? Also XP-82 Twin Mustang

Sat Mar 10, 2018 1:04 pm

Read a great article in the March issue of EAA on the Flying Heritage Collection. Was wondering if anyone knows the most current status of the following aircraft within their fantastic collection?

1. The ME-262 with the original Jumo engine?

2. The P-38 last I knew being restored by West Pac, and does this P-38 have documented combat history?

3. B-17E once owned by the Whittington Brothers out of Florida?

Thanks for any feedback on these restos.

I'm like Columbo just one last question which popped into my head I know the XP-82 is getting close to flying status will it make Oshkosh 2018?

The FHC is very hush hush when it comes to their restorations. We will have to wait and see what happens.

The XP-82 crew is very forthcoming with regular updates and progress reports. While the plane is "close", close being a relative term.. there are a number of things that need to happen...i.e Button up the final restoration work, airworthiness certification, and flight testing. With Osh only 4 months away... i wouldn't count on it this year.
