Military Aviation Museum "scoop" on NPR this morning...

Wed May 09, 2018 7:14 am

Driving in to work, the local NPR station (WHRO) had a brief story about Jerry Yagen- apparently, he's in Russia right now looking for a suitable Russian hangar to bring back and set up for his collection of Soviet aircraft. Additionally, there was discussion of a bronze monument featuring an American, UK, and Russian airman to be erected at the museum, partly to honor four Russian airmen along with a Canadian airman who were killed in the crash of a PBN-1 Nomad in the Pasquotank River on Jan 11, 1945 during "Operation Zebra".

This is pretty exciting news- as anyone who's been here knows, Jerry has an amazing collection of Russian aircraft, possibly the largest such collection in the US, and it's certainly enough to fill a hangar much as he's done with the Cottbus hangar from the former Focke Wulf plant in Germany.

It’s amazing how fast the news of the Russian hangar has been able to make its way out. Hopefully all of it goes through.

Meanwhile, I know of a west coast collector who can't get local permit s
to reassemble a WWII hangar at his airport.
