Watson's Whizzers Books

Wed Jul 04, 2018 12:41 pm

I see in the new Warbirds International that there are THREE new (?) books on Watson's Whizzers, the USAAF outfit that rounded up advanced Nazi aircraft at the end of WWII and brought them to the US for evaluation. I'd like to own at least one, but all three? Probably not.

So, is one of these superior to the others? I'd like to have lots of photos, at least some preferably in color.

Here they are:

Watson's Whizzers by (can't read author's name), 224 pages "highly detailed text," no illos mentioned, softbound, $40.

Operation Lusty by Graham Simons, 270 pages, "heavily illustrated," hardbound, $40.

American Raiders by Wolfgang Samuel, 493 pages (!), no illos mentioned, hardbound, $30.

Anyone have/read/seen any of these? Any recommendations or reviews?

Samuel's book has reviews on Amazon: illo's let down by poor-quality paper made me decide against buying it. There seem to be a lot of publications around which spoil good text by settling for a cheaper price and poor reproduction.

Edit: some of these books aren't new - the top one (also by Samuel) is pub. 2010. American Raiders is 2004.
