Aw man! I am so close to having enough!
Anyone have $274,995 I could borrow?

I imagine it would need a lot more than the fabric work and tires they mention. Engines are relatively high time. An expensive proposition to restore it.

CoastieJohn,

Can you supply some details of its history with and usage by the USCG?

A search of fold3.com found just one record that indicates CG-34027 participated in a search for a missing lobster boat on 30 May 1945 while stationed at USCG Air Station Salem, Massachusetts.

Looking forward to what you and/or anyone else can add concerning the history of PBY-5A BuNo 34027, N9505C.

I can look around. The photo's at the ad for the plane show the aircraft logbook and it indicates CG usage. If you have a link to that article I wouldn't mind seeing it. Thanks....John

Would this plane have had a turret bow?

Tom - yes, this Catalina would have had the standard (for the time) bow turret fitted when it was built by Consolidated at San Diego. It was removed and the space faired over by by Las Vegas Hacienda Inc of Long Beach, CA for the owner Alcan Airways in 1960. At that stage the aircraft still had P&W R-1830s but it was later re-engined with Wright R-2600s.

Pan Am was able to use a few of these from the USN for crew training in early WW2 at Treasure Island, CA.

My dad said they came up with a short ditty regarding their performance.
"Oh, you can't get to heaven in a PBY
Cause the damned old thing won't fly that high".
