Can I take the pulse of the members here to give me their personal 'top three' warbird airshows in the United States? Why do you like it, and maybe give me a rough estimate of how many warbirds actually fly and participate during said shows?

Without a doubt, unquestionably, the top warbird show in the United States, is the annual Planes of Fame airshow at Chino airport. The second top one is Oshkosh.
There are many other top contenders such as CAF Airsho, Thunder over Michigan, Fighter Factory/MAM, etc., etc.
I like the Chino airshow because of the extreme variety of rare types. Steve Hinton knows EVERYBODY in the warbird world and through his connections/friendships he is always able to get very rare and often times, unseen warbirds to participate in his airshow. I also like the fact that every year POF has a different "theme" for the airshow. One year, it might be the largest gathering of flying Tigercats on the planet, the next year, P-47's, the next P-40's, etc. All of these have happened in the past.
