One person was taken to the hospital after a plane crash late Thursday morning at the Anoka County-Blaine Airport, according to the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View Fire Department.

Fire Chief Charlie Smith said that the crashed plane, which went down off the end of Runway 18 on the north side of the airport, had military markings on it and may have been "an old warbird."

He said a news conference will be held about 1 p.m.

One person was reported in critical condition with facial burns.

Amy Lovgren, a technical sergeant with the 133rd Airlift Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard, said the plane was not affiliated with her company.

Patrick Hogan spokesman for the Metropolitan Airports Commission, confirmed there had been an incident at the airport but couldn't provide more details because the fire department was handling the crash.

I don't know any details other than what I've seen on the web and on the local news. I drove out there this afternoon and I know who it was. I've met him once or twice over the years and saw his T-28 recently around the Anoka County airport. I hope the best for him.

It looks as if the landing gear are punched through the top of the wings.

According to a press conference by the Blaine police department, it sounds as though, although the pilot was brought to the hospital in critical condition, his injuries are non life-threatening (I've heard 3rd-degree burns). According to this article by the Star Tribune, tower communication at the time indicates that the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit prior to setting up to land. I'm praying that the pilot makes a full and speedy recovery.

Looks like the aft fuse broke off and ended up at the wrong end of the wreckage. At first, i thought the airplane had just burned in two at the cockpit, but it is much stranger than that.

It looks as if the landing gear are punched through the top of the wings.

You can't see the tops of the wings.......interestingly the rear fuselage is sitting where the nose would be as the wings are sitting leading edge up or at least one wing is round the other way.. Things must have really gone to town on landing. Hope the pilot comes through this ok.
