Bf-109 Recovery from Russia, June 2018!

Do tell!!! 2 more 109s? There has to be a lot of well-preserved stuff in Russia. Hopefully there’s some really rare stuff out there just waiting to be found...Ju-87, Do-17, etc.

Great news! I'm glad that the Wings of Victory Museum is starting to branch out into Luftwaffe aircraft. I hope they make this 109 flyable so their other Russian fighters have an aircraft to "shoot down" at their airshows in Europe.

From looking at the pictures, I'd say there would be very little of the original aircraft left if they decide to make it a flyer. As much as I would love to see another WWII vintage warbird in the air, I think this one would be better suited with a good cleaning and preservation followed by static display in a museum.

You might be right. The original facebook posting says that the aircraft is in storage and being disassembled to assess the condition. Conservators will decide the fate of the aircraft as to weather it is restored to static or flight.

I agree with what you said. If restoration would take a "virtual" clone with very few original parts, then just preserve, conserve and let it be a static. If a majority of the airframe could be used as the basis of an airworthy rebuild, then let it fly.

I do like 109's, and I love what Meier Motors is doing. I would like to see a 109 flying in Russia. It would make a nice accompaniment to the growing collection of airworthy Soviet W.W. II planes over there.
