B17 Pilots Seat Armor Plate

Tue Apr 23, 2019 6:13 am

I purchased two pieces of metal at auction sight unseen. The postman staggered down the drive today with 50 kg of armor plate - I believe these are B17 pilot and co pilot matched seat back armor.

Any projects needing these who can afford the postage ?

Desert Rat would be interested in the armor plating for the seats. Are there any part numbers that can be found?

Thank you.

Chris I am not sure if the black paint is original or preservative.

There should bee numbers on the back but not visible through the black.

They are handed and there is the steel edging on one each of the sides.

The rubber mounts are worn and teh aluminum support bars are blown and bent.

If the weight is marked in kilograms,it might not be a U.S. seat.

The weight is not marked in kg - the weight of the parcels as they arrived was ca. 23.3 kg each.

There are no visible markings.

After looking over the drawings, these are certainly armor plating for both a B-17 pilot and co-pilot. These were used on late F's and G's so unfortunately would not work in Desert Rat, due to the fact it is an E model. Very cool parts you have there. If you ever do come up with any other B-17 parts, we would be keen to see what they are. Thank you very much for posting.

Lucky Thirteen (42-3455, 384BG) is a late-F, which means those armor plates are a good match. She is being rebuilt in Asheville, North Carolina by Hangar Thirteen.

The panels are available!

However they are not a gift as I bought them at an auction and then had them shipped to me all with costs. I am willing to send them on at cost

Shipping to USA is 100 USD per panel.
