Focke Wolf 190-D-13 Who owns it??

Wed May 08, 2019 4:09 pm

I was watching a 1990 video of engine start up on this super rare aircraft when owned by Doug Champlain. I believe the aircraft then went to the Museum Of Flight. Is it still there if not who owns this aircraft now? Also I don't suppose there are any under restoration to fly anywhere in the world? That was I think a really slick German Aircraft Design. It looks fast just sitting there. Thanks for the feedback.

It's owned by FHCAM now and will never be flown:

As far as ones under restoration to airworthy, there are two:

1) One at the Collings foundation, which I don't believe has started restoration yet.

2) Yagen's Flug Werke example, which though complete, needs a "re-restoration" to modify it to accept an original Jumo 213 engine.

Both are FW-190D-9, there is only 1 D-13

The Voormezele family in Belgium have had one of the Flugwerk 190 Dora airframes since it was built.
I have not heard much regarding any progress though.

This would also be a D-9 and not a D-13.

The Dora is just the most bada$$ looking aircraft ever!

That is correct. I was referring to "Dora" models in general, not specific D-13 variants. When he made the reference to the "really slick German Aircraft Design", I thought he was referencing "long-nosed 190's".

Anyways, at the time of that 1990 video, that 190 wasn't a D-13. It was a D-13 fuselage with D-9 wings. It has since been corrected and is a now a true D-13 variant.

Funny....I was just thinking a few days ago about where the D-9 (400616) that was at Hangar 10 went to? It sold back in 2015, and I tried doing a quick search, but no info on its whereabouts. Does anyone know, and if so, what are their plans for it?

Thanks in advance.

The Hangar10 D-9 is now in storage in Texas with a new owner, although I don't know who or which museum. It was never airworthy and to fly you basically will have to start over and find a good engine.

The Vormezeele Fw-190 is long overdue for an update. They obtained the overhauled Jumo 213 from MotoBend (Dirke Bend) in Germany I believe. I know that it was a very slow project but it would be great to seen an update.

Jerry Yegan's Jumo213 is almost finished and ready to run at Vintage V12s. Although I thought that the original plan was for the replica Fw-190D-9 to travel to MeierMotors in Germany for rework and to install the Jumo. But as far as I know the aircraft is still sitting in the hangar in Virginia. So it will not be flying anytime soon either.

The Lake Schwerin static D-9 restoration in Germany should be close to finished, or at least standing the gear (before they hang it from the rafters, per the display plan if I recall.)

From what i heard Voormezeele's project is a personnal project, done on freetime or limited budget making it a slow project.

Jerry Yagens Military Aviation Museum has recently revised their website and included hanger cams again. The camera in the Cottbus shows the Focke Wulf 190 D in it along with their original 190 A8 , non-airworthy-yet. They don't have the Fighter Factory cameras as before, really liked them as you could see the maintenance side of this great museum. Was thinking of going this year to maybe see the P-39 , but don't know if it's there or when it will be ready for flight. Seen the Bf109 first flight there in 2016 and was awesome. Next year for sure, I have my first Osh Kosh this year.
