Boeing B-17F-5-BO Flying Fortress/41-24419 "Honey Chile II" of the 97th Bomb Group

"Originally assigned to the 327th Bomb Squadron, 92nd Bomb Group in July 1942 and named "Virgin Sturgeon". After the 92nd reached England they had all their F-model B-17's transferred on 24 August 1942 to the 341st Bomb Squadron, 97th Bomb Group, where it was re-named "Honey Chile II". You can see where the original name was painted over. Here is a link to a photo of the first name's nose art. The plane was destroyed on the ground by a Ju 88 raid on the base at Briskra, North Africa on 10 January 1943." .... D Sheley
